A More Complete Evaluation for Vertigo and Dizziness

Vertigo, dizziness and imbalance can come from different systems and can feel very different from one person to another. Axon Integrative Health evaluates vestibular, neurological, visual and movement-related factors that may be relevant to your symptoms.

We start by identifying the pattern of your dizziness, what triggers it, what other symptoms occur with it and how your balance and neurological systems are functioning.

Yes, Axon evaluates patients experiencing vertigo, dizziness and balance problems.

Pattern-Based Assessment

The timing, triggers and associated symptoms help guide what should be evaluated.

Symptom recognition

What Does Your Dizziness Feel Like?

Patients use many different words to describe dizziness. You may be experiencing:

Room-spinning vertigo
Rocking or swaying sensations
Lightheadedness
Unsteadiness while walking
Dizziness with head movement
Symptoms when rolling in bed
Visual motion sensitivity
Difficulty in grocery stores or busy environments
Nausea with movement
Headaches or migraine symptoms
Balance loss
Symptoms after concussion or illness
Difficulty focusing your eyes while moving
The type of dizziness, what triggers it and how long it lasts can help narrow the evaluation.
Axon's approach

Dizziness Can Involve Several Systems

Balance depends on the interaction of the inner ear, eyes, brain, sensory input and movement. Axon's clinical neuroscience model allows these systems to be evaluated together when appropriate.

Vestibular Function

Inner-ear related balance function and central vestibular processing may be assessed based on your presentation.

Eye Movements

Visual tracking, gaze stability and eye movement findings can provide information about neurological and vestibular function.

Balance & Movement

Postural control, gait and movement may be evaluated to understand how dizziness affects function.

Rehabilitation

When appropriate, care may include graded vestibular, visual or movement-based rehabilitation based on your findings.

The evaluation

Start With the Pattern of Your Dizziness

Your initial process may include:

Detailed dizziness and symptom history
Neurological examination
Balance assessment
Vestibular evaluation
Eye movement / oculomotor assessment
Gaze stability testing
Gait and movement assessment
Positional testing when appropriate
Review of prior imaging or specialist records

Not all vertigo is the same.

A positional inner-ear problem, migraine-associated dizziness, post-concussion symptoms and other vestibular disorders can require different next steps. The evaluation helps determine what is appropriate.
